Due to the increased prevalence of the Covid-19 virus, TBSS has decided that effective 7/19/2020, we will stop providing guest rides and/or accepting new members. Existing students should contact their flight instructor for guidance. All existing TBSS members are expected to continue to adhere to CDC and State recommendations to limit the spread of Covid-19 virus. We apologize for this inconvenience and hope to resume normal operations as soon as possible.
The Tampa Bay Soaring Society (TBSS) was started in 1978 and is now based at Zephyrhills Municipal Airport (KZPH) adjacent to Runway 01/19. The club has more than 70 full-time and seasonal members. Our glider fleet includes two Grob 103’s, two Blanik L23’s, a Schweizer 1-26 and Schweizer 1-35. We also have two tow-planes: a 235 hp Pawnee and a 235 hp Cessna 175. Introductory Flights and instruction are available year-round on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday (weather permitting).
TBSS prides itself in offering lower cost / high quality access to the sport of soaring. We welcome new and experienced pilots. TBSS is a 501(c)3 not for profit company and we are proud members of the Soaring Society of America (SSA). We have four members who are A&P certified mechanics and a recently constructed 3,000 sq. ft. hangar used to house our Pawnee tow-plane and perform maintenance on club gliders as needed. All members are expected to participate in flight line duties and general club maintenance chores as required.
RV parking space is available (for a small fee) for members to bring their own vehicles and spend the night. There are 6 RV parking spots available for rental (first come first serve) with 110/220 power and water. Our club-house features a fully furnished kitchen, private rest room with shower and screened porch where members usually gather at the end of the day to “elaborate” on the accomplishments of their flights.
